IV Therapy
Hydration and vitamin infusion delivered directly into the bloodstream, under the supervision of a physician, for patients who need more than an oral supplement can deliver.
Intravenous therapy delivers fluid and nutrients straight into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract entirely. For most people most of the time, eating well and taking something by mouth is the right answer. IV therapy is useful in the specific situations where that route is not enough, or not available.
Why Patients Choose It
Absorption is the usual reason. Oral vitamins and minerals must survive the stomach and be taken up through the gut wall, and a number of common situations interfere with that: inflammatory bowel conditions, malabsorption, recent illness with vomiting or diarrhea, or simply a digestive system under strain. Delivering nutrients intravenously removes that variable.
Dehydration is the other common reason, whether from acute illness, heat, or exertion. Restoring fluid volume directly is faster than drinking it.
What We Offer
The practice provides IV hydration and multivitamin infusion. Formulations are selected for the individual patient rather than sold as a fixed menu, and what goes into a given bag is a clinical decision made after evaluating you.
If you have a specific infusion in mind, bring it to the conversation. If it is appropriate for you, Dr. Dalton will say so. If it is not, he will say that instead and explain why.
An Honest Word On Expectations
IV vitamin therapy is widely marketed with claims that outrun the evidence supporting them. This practice does not make those claims. Correcting a genuine deficiency produces a genuine benefit. Infusing nutrients someone is not short of mostly produces expensive urine.
The useful version of this service starts with finding out what is actually going on, which is why IV therapy here follows an evaluation rather than replacing one. Laboratory testing frequently forms part of that.
What To Expect
A session begins with a brief review of your history and current medications. An IV line is placed, usually in the arm, and the infusion runs while you sit comfortably. Most sessions take between thirty and sixty minutes depending on the volume and formulation. You are monitored throughout and can read, work, or rest.
Afterwards you can return to normal activity immediately. Some patients feel the effect of rehydration quickly. Nutrient repletion is generally a slower, cumulative process.
Safety And Suitability
IV therapy is a medical procedure, not a spa treatment, and it is treated that way here. Bruising or tenderness at the insertion site is the most common side effect. Certain conditions, particularly kidney disease and some cardiac conditions, make large fluid volumes inadvisable, which is one of several reasons the evaluation comes first.
Tell us about all medications and supplements you take, and about any prior reaction to an infusion or injection.
Cost And Insurance
Coverage for infusion therapy varies considerably by plan and by indication. Contact the office to discuss cost before booking, and ask about the Sliding Fee Schedule if cost is a barrier.
